Just a Thought

I am at home this afternoon trying to clean and straighten up. The only reason I am doing this today is that I am awaiting a phone call from my father who is supposed to get an update on his cancer battle from his oncologist. I can’t just sit around and do nothing.

So I am cleaning to the sounds of Lucy on XM Satellite Radio. For those who do not know, Lucy is an alternative rock channel.

But as I was cleaning just a few moments ago, the doorbell rang and standing there was Marianne, a 4 year old girl I met when she was a patient in the hospital about a week ago. Her grandmother stood beside her. The young girl wanted to thank me for visiting with her in the hospital. She said she was feeling much better and celebrated Thanksgiving at home with her family.

To show her thanks to me, she said she made a pan of Reese’s Peanut Butter bars. I smiled and gave her and her grandma a hug.

Marianne was very sick for a long time. For her to be feeling better and making peanut butter bars is a miracle. God truly answers prayers.

Now all I need is some milk…

Today they announced their “comeback reunion” tour; two stops in our area – the Meadowlands (Continental Airlines Arena) on November 3rd and New York City (of course, Madison Square Garden) on November 13th.

So the question of questions – do I prefer Van Halen with David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar? I’m still partial to Roth.

For some reason this morning, I pulled the Lutheran Service Book off my shelf in the home office (that is where I am working this morning) and started flipping through the pages. After morning prayer, I usually head home and get ready for the day. This morning, I had an urge to just read through the hymnal, and I stopped on Hymn 818, “In Thee Is Gladness.” The opening verse:

In Thee is gladness, amid all sadness, Jesus, sunshine of my heart.
By Thee are given the gifts of heaven, Thou the true Redeemer art.
Our souls Thou wakest, our bonds Thou breakest,
Who trusts Thee surely, has built securely; He stands forever: Alleluia!
Our hearts are pining to see Thy shining,
Dying or living to Thee are cleaving; Naught can us sever: Alleluia!

Just a thought for an early Wednesday!! God be with you!
